UPDATED: Fox Hires David Leitch To Direct ‘Deadpool 2’; Was Eyed For ‘X-Force’

Oct 28, 2016

Variety reports that 20th Century Fox has hired David Leitch (John Wick, The Coldest City) to replace Tim Miller as the director of Deadpool 2, as first reported by Mashable that he was the frontrunner.

Leitch’s Marvel roots run deep as he was the second unit director on The Wolverine and Captain America: Civil War.

20th Century Fox has hired “John Wick” director David Leitch to helm “Deadpool 2,” less than a week after Tim Miller dropped out due to creative differences with star Ryan Reynolds.

Leitch also directed “The Coldest City.” He had initially been eyed by Fox to helm its long-in-development “X-Force” movie adaptation, but has since been tapped for the “Deadpool” sequel.

UPDATE #2: Variety has changed their original story.

David had been eyed to direct X-Force as well, it’s possible he could end-up direct both in the end if he’s gung-ho about it.

John Wick 2‘s Ruby Rose (Orange Is The New BlackResident Evil: The Final Chapter,  xXx: The Return of Xander Cage, Meg) and The Coldest City‘s Sofia Boutella (Kingsman: The Secret Service, The Mummy, Star Trek Beyond) are up for the role of Domino, we think their connection to Leitch makes them the strongest contenders.

Production is said to begin in early 2017 with 2018 release eyed.
