Death Wish was the biggest exploitation hit film of the 1970’s and it spawned four sequels. The original film took the violent revenge novel by Brian Garfield and turned it into a film that drove audiences into a frenzy, they cheered while this “average Joe” gunning down criminals.

It’s a very different era and gun violence is seen in a very different view, so I’m curious how audiences will react this level of violence and even more crazy will come from gore director Eli Roth (Knock Knock, Cabin Fever, Hostel).

Eli Roth is directing the picture which follows a man named Paul Kersey (Willis) whose life is destroyed by a violent crime against his wife and daughter. Frustrated the bad guys were not brought to justice for the violence and degradation the thugs inflicted on his family, he starts hunting for the perpetrators himself.

Deadline reports that Vincent D’Onofrio (Jurassic World, Full Metal Jacket, Daredevil, Magnificent Seven) and Dean Norris (Breaking Bad, Total Recall, Lethal Weapon 2) have taken roles alongside lead Bruce Willis. These are excellent casting additions, but we’ll have to wait and see if Roth will be able to get a decent performance out Willis, who notoriously has had a terrible on-set attitude in the last couple years.
