Industrial Light and Magic has been tackling a bulk of the Marvel cinematic universe’s visual effects, but from time-to-time New Zealand’s Weta Digital (Hobbit, Avatar, District 9, Planet of The Apes) will get involved.

Their superhero credits include The Avengers, Iron Man 3, Deadpool, Batman v Superman, Man of Steel and The Wolverine.

The Weta Digital website lists one of their in-production projects as being Guardians of The Galaxy Vol.2, while ILM’s site doesn’t even have the project listed. Our assumption being is that ILM might be too busy with Rogue One, Valerian, Kong: Skull Island, The Great Wall and Transformers: The Last Knight to also tackle Guardians 2.

It’s looking like Weta at the moment might be doing most of the effects work on the sequel.

The effects house has been slowly developing a relationship with Disney providing effects recently for The Jungle Book, The BFG and Pete’s Dragon, so it’s not entirely shocking to see them take on a larger role with helping out Marvel Studios with their ever expanding release slate.

Guardians 2 is set for release on May 5th, 2017.
