What are the Best Action Movies on Netflix?

Apr 24, 2022

Action blockbusters are some of the most popular movies in the world today. Superhero films absolutely dominate the zeitgeist, action comedies offer a reprieve from any stressors of everyday life, and thrillers keep us excited and on the edge of our seats, whether we are watching them in theaters or on Netflix.

When it comes to streaming services, very few do it as well as Netflix. With a wide range of films and television series (both external and Netflix original), the streaming service is one of the most popular in the world, drawing in a huge crowd, and seeing quite a bit of traffic annually.

One of the most popular genres of films on Netflix is the action genre, and in this article, we are going to look over a few films, either Netflix originals or once that can be streamed on the website, that will entice you and keep you on the edge of your seat throughout.

Polar

Starring the Danish superstar, Mads Mikkelsen, Polar is a film about a former Hitman, betrayed by his company, who is now looking to rescue a girl who he became involved with upon retirement. The film sees him mow through an army of elite assassins, killing each one of them in increasingly creative ways. Unsurprisingly, Mads Mikkelsen delivers a spectacular performance, which is only bolstered by the acting of the supporting cast. While it isn’t a particularly deep film, it will keep you entertained for a couple of hours.

Army of the Dead

After his 4-hour epic, Justice League capped off his stint as head of the DC Cinematic Universe, Zac Snyder moved on to directing original films. The first of them, was a revisit of the zombie genre, with a new twist. Army of the Dead sees a group of mercenaries trying to pull off a Las Vegas heist. Only Las Vegas has been overrun by the living dead.

Relying on tropes of both zombie films, heist films, and action films, Army of the Dead tells a predictable, yet somehow engaging story. Coupled with the typical Zac Snyder flair, the film will certainly satisfy those looking for a horror-themed action blockbuster.

While the characters in the film may not be safe from the zombie horde, fans of gambling can safely play live roulette against a human dealer using various online casinos, from the comfort and safety of their own home.

John Wick Trilogy

Very few modern action films have left the impact on the genre that John Wick has. Not only is the film a fantastic action blockbuster, it is also an exercise in world building, creating a fun, and engaging world, where mobsters, hitmen, and various other criminal organizations live by a code of honor. The first film is quite a simple story about a man seeking revenge for the murder of his dog, however the 2 sequels expand upon the topic, creating a fascinating world and story. On top of that, it is just fun. Definitely check it out, if you have the time to spare.

Edge of Tomorrow

One of the best science-fiction, action films to be released in the 2010s, Edge of Tomorrow stars Tom Cruise as an army major, who has never seen action. After a series of events occur, which make his superiors angry, he is demoted and sent to fight against an alien menace. He is killed in action, though due to being exposed to the Aliens’ DNA, he is forced to relive the day he died over and over again. An interesting twist on the time travel trope, Edge of Tomorrow is absolutely thrilling and will definitely keep any fan of action films, sci-fi, and/or Tom Cruise satisfied to the very end.
