Will Quaritch Clones Be The Villains Of All Four ‘Avatar’ Sequels?

Aug 9, 2017

Colonel Miles Quaritch (Stephen Lang) and Corporal Lyle Wainfleet (Matt Gerald) are dead as doorknobs but are coming back for the Avatar sequels.

James Cameron (via Empire) revealed the big bad of all four Avatar sequels will be Lang’s Quaritch. We knew about his return to Avatar 2 early on (same with Sigourney Weaver) but having him being in every movie suggests consistent resurrections.

“The interesting conceit of the Avatar sequels is it’s pretty much the same characters. There are new characters and a lot of new settings and creatures, so I’m taking characters you know and putting them in unfamiliar places and moving them on this greater journey. But it’s not a whole bunch of new characters every time. There’s not a new villain every time, which is interesting. Same guy. Same motherfucker through all four movies. He is so good and he just gets better. I know Stephen Lang is gonna knock this out of the park.”

Deadline also confirmed Matt Gerald is back as well, even though his character died too.

Well, we’re under the impression this likely means that top brass (possibly grunts too) likely are getting clones or 3D printed to replace them when they get bumped-off on their respective colonies they’re overseeing. We could have dozens of Quaritches all over the universe.

Cameron kept hinting to clone technology throughout the film. Quaritch tells Jake that when he rotates back to Earth he’d make sure he’d get his “real legs“, the assumption here is that they have the ability to grow/create humans/body parts. It’s not that terribly shocking with them being able to grow Na’vi in a lab. Growing human clones is likely vastly cheaper than aliens.

Growing human clones is likely vastly cheaper than aliens and possibly more cost effective than retraining/hiring new recruits to go off-world.

Avatar 2 is set for release on December 18th, 2020.
