Hiroyuki Sanada has reportedly joined the cast of Skydance/Sony’s high-profile science fiction film Life according to Deadline. The Japanese actor is best known to western audiences from roles in films such as The Wolverine, The Last Samurai and Sunshine.
Story follows the crew of the International Space Station, who, after retrieving a sample from Mars, discover that it displays signs of life, and proves to be more intelligent than expected.
He’ll play one of the many members of the International Space Station alongside fellow cast members Ryan Reynolds, Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation‘s Rebecca Ferguson and Jake Gyllenhaal.
Life will be directed by Daniel Espinosa (Safe House, Easy Money) with a script from Deadpool and Zombieland writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese.
An official production start hasn’t been announced, but is said to be eyeing a release date of March 24th, 2017.
