Woody Harrelson Has “Big Interest” In Marvel Role; My Vote Goes To Join ‘Captain Marvel’

Jun 14, 2016

Woody Harrelson (Hunger Games, War For The Planet of The Apes, Zombieland, Natural Born Killers) while promoting Now You See Me 2 revealed to Collider a genuine interest in joining co-star Mark Ruffalo in the MCU. The two-time Oscar nominee doesn’t mention a role specifically, but we assume it would be a part within the main Marvel universe.

“Big interest..big interest..in fact, I’d love to be apart of the that Marvel universe.”

Woody has played both villains and anti-heroes, so you’re guess is as good as our’s what part he could be offered.

This isn’t the first time a major actor has come-out to campaign for Marvel or superhero project role, Jeff Goldblum recently mentioned a desire and was just confirmed for being apart of Thor: Ragnarok.

It could be interesting to maybe see him playing a Spider-Man villain in Homecoming, or even a major role in the upcoming Captain Marvel film.

Oddly enough, he’s co-starring with Captain Marvel frontrunner Brie Larson in the dramatic film The Glass Castle which is currently shooting, They also previously worked together on Rampart, where Larson played Woody’s daughter. Marvel is known to pair actors who have worked together in the past, so this connection isn’t a hard one to make, it also doesn’t hurt Woody has Oscar nominations behind him as well.

A role in Captain Marvel would interesting, as he’s played military characters before and if the film focuses on Carol’s time in the military they’ll be plenty of male roles to fill for her peers and superiors. Think of the role Tom Skerrit played as Viper in Tony Scott’s Top Gun or Viggo Mortensen’s part as Master Chief in Ridley Scott’s G.I. Jane.

He also praised his Zombieland writers Reese Rhett and Paul Wernick’s work on the film Deadpool, so maybe he could end-up playing Cable or another mutant role in  sequel?

Woody’s next big studio release will be playing a human villain in Matt Reeves’ War For The Planet of The Apes.
