WTF: Tarantino Reportedly Pitching ‘Star Trek’ Movie Idea To Abrams/Paramount – Might Direct

Quentin Tarantino is set to direct his ninth film this summer which will be released by Sony on August 9th, 2019, the 50th Anniversary of the murder of Sharon Tate.

However, a new report from Deadline suggests he’s already working on a potential next project and this is a bit bonkers. Since it’s said to be a pitch idea for a new Star Trek movie that he’s approached both J.J. Abrams and Paramount Studios. They also claim he might direct it.

Already busy prepping to direct the film he just set up at Sony Pictures, Quentin Tarantino is also planning to boldly go where he has not gone before. Sources said that Tarantino has come up with a great idea for a Star Trek movie at Paramount. After sharing his idea with JJ Abrams (who himself is busy prepping Star Wars Episode IX), I’ve heard the plan is to assemble a writers room of scribes who’ll hear Tarantino’s take and begin to put together a movie. If it all works out, Tarantino might direct it, with Abrams producing.

Tarantino has suggested that he would retire after making ten movies, so it would be a bit baffling if his last project was someone else’s IP.

The one issue here that sets off my Quentin alarm is that there is a suggestion that he’d pitch to a writer’s room and they would write the film. To me, this sounds a little off as Tarantino rarely shares screenwriting credit on his films. It’s completely out of left-field since the director has humored studio offers for things like James Bond and Green Lantern, only to turn them down in the end. Who knows if this will be something Tarantino is involved with beyond the story idea.

There is also the issue of Tarantino not being very familiar with digital effects as most of his films use in-camera practical special effects. Could he attempt to recreate the old methods used on shows like Trek and Battlestar Galactica?

Previously, there had been chatter of a fourth Star Trek film that would see Chris Pine’s Kirk time-travel to meet his father played by Chris Hemsworth. There doesn’t seem to be any indication if this is Star Trek 4, or something completely different.
