‘X-Force’ Lineup Revealed and ‘Apocalypse’ Ultimately Killed Script?

Dec 28, 2015

It’s starting to look like we might not be getting Jeff Wadlow’s X-Force as originally imagined in his 2013 script, according to some recent comments and information the film could be get majorly retooled, thanks to X-Men: Apocalypse.

Comic Book is claiming this following concept image from artist Gregory Semkow was commissioned by Jeff Wadlow for his X-Force script, revealing the five team members we’ve been dying to learn.

This concept image includes Cable, Domino, Warpath, Cannonball, and an unknown female character. I’m digging the look of Cable and Domino, but I can’t really say I’m liking the others. This character might be either a Rogue, a weird version of Psylocke (art was clearly made before Olivia Munn was cast in the role) or Hope Summers.

I recently mentioned on Twitter that Rogue is a character like Colossus, Angel, Psylocke, and Gambit that deserves a new actress and a massive character overhaul. Although, she might be better suited to get a reboot in the Gambit sequel, along with Cain Marko aka Juggernaut that almost was apart of the 70’s scenes in Days of Future Past. Since both characters have criminal origins, would make better inclusion in Gambit’s mutant underworld.

A more likely potential mutant this could be is Feral, who is a female mutant similar to Beast and just happens to rock white streaks in her hair as well.

The lineup is mostly odd if this was indeed Hope or Rogue, mainly because they weren’t originally apart of the team, I’d imagine that Olivia Munn‘s Psylocke becomes the better pick, as she’s a team leader of the group in the modern comics.

Warpath is played by Booboo Stewart, who kicked ass in a couple scenes in Days of Future Past. We’ve been hearing that Blink could slide into the lineup as well, I’d imagine that if this Wadlow script does get rewritten I could see them put her into the lineup.

I know this might have fans curious when Fox will be announcing this moving forward, but a new comment from Deadpool and X-Force creator Rob Liefeld suggests that Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Apocalypse has seemingly made Wadlow’s X-Force script from 2013 pointless, he didn’t elaborate.

Rob might be privileged to insider information, but ultimately doesn’t run or produce the X-Men franchise, so this could all be just opinions. Then again, this could explain the huge delay of the project and Jeff Wadlow bouncing to make Masters of The Universe for Sony.

We’ve heard that the studio really wants to include Cable eventually, and Deadpool director Tim Miller alluding that he’d be apart of the the sequel, along with teasing Laura Kinney aka X-23. Colossus is said to be taking the role that was originally meant for Cable. I wouldn’t be entirely shocked if X-Force gets folded into this Deadpool sequel, which is said to be getting an announcement in the near future. I know that fans have voiced their desire to see the film get an R-rating due to the brutal nature of the team, this is kind of how that goes down. Let’s not ignore that the film includes two X-Force members.

There’s also the question of Josh Boone’s New Mutants and this rumored untitled X-Men film Bryan Singer is making in 2017, will these projects have anything to do with X-Force?

I would assume that New Mutants becomes the next First Class, taking the main films into new territory with another trilogy focusing on a lineup of different mutants. If that were true, that could mean there is a chance Bryan Singer’s X-Men film actually turns out to be a completely rewritten version of X-Force, I won’t hold my breath though. However, he didn’t pretty much give us a version of the team in Days of Future Past, maybe he’s indeed itching to further develop the spin-off.
