‘X-Men: The New Mutants’ Likely Shooting In Boston; Josh Boone Scouting Locations

Mar 29, 2017

We recently learned that Josh Boone‘s X-Men: The New Mutants wouldn’t be shooting in Montreal as we had previously suspected for months.

Instead, Omega Underground revealed a Canadian film union site listing that X-Men 7 aka Teen Spirit (production title) would be shooting there starting in June, without any other film listings that could be a cover for New Mutants.

However, it seems like Josh might have revealed where the film might actually be shooting. Boone reveals in this Instagram post from today that he’s possibly scouting locations for New Mutants.

An earlier post from yesterday revealed he was in Boston, Massachusetts for “no reason”.

The director had previously suggested that filming could begin between April and May.

It should be noted that Boone has been attached to direct Stephen King projects such as The Stand and Revival. Shooting the film in Massachusetts to homage King wouldn’t be terribly strange to us as the film is said to taking cues from his work.

Some recent projects shot in Boston and in the state include Patriots Day, Live By Night, Manchester By The Sea, Ghostbusters, Black Mass, The Fighter, The Social Network, The Town, Moneyball, Captain Phillips, Spotlight, and The Equalizer.

Having 20th Century Fox shoot stateside wouldn’t be terribly shocking since their other regular studio space is being used by other X-Men projects. Deadpool 2 is confirmed for a shoot in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada starting this June and we’ve discovered the untitled X-Men 7 is indeed shooting this June in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Having X-Men: New Mutants shooting in the northern United States would make traveling for producers a lot easier.

There’s an expectation that the three films will be ready for release dates in 2018, we’re hoping to get some announcements from 20th Century Fox at their CinemaCon presentation tomorrow.

Its cast hasn’t been confirmed either but there had been rumblings (also hints from Boone) of James McAvoy joining new franchise additions Anya Taylor-Joy, Maisie Willians, and Nat Wolff.

Thanks to our good friend @XMenSaga for the heads-up.
