Variety is reporting today that Marvel’s limited run Empire of the Dead will be developed for television in the wake of such shows like The Walking Dead and True Blood. The creator of the comic George A. Romero has been very critical of the smash hit The Walking Dead claiming it’s a “soap opera” with occasional zombies showing up. However his series deals with the classic plot with humanity dealing with a plague that turns everyone into zombies however they also end up being confronted by vampires.
A small synopsis on the comic series has also appeared online:
Welcome to New York City years after the undead plague has erupted—but just because Manhattan has been quarantined, don’t think that everyone inside is safe! Not only do flesh-eaters roam within Manhattan, but there’s another ancient predator about to take a bite out of the Big Apple!
Diary of the Dead and Survival of the Dead producer Peter Grunwald will also produce the series as well as write.
No network has yet to pick up the series…
