The Last Jedi Director to Oversee New Star Wars Trilogy

Nov 9, 2017

We’re a little more than a month away from the next chapter in the Star Wars saga and now there’s news that Star Wars fans will be taking more journeys into a galaxy far,far away.

Lucasfilm issued an official press release confirming that a new Star Wars trilogy would be coming after Star Wars Episode IX directed by JJ Abrams. It was also announced that Star Wars The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson would oversee the new trilogy which will focus on new characters away from the Skywalker storyline.

“As writer-director of The Last Jedi, Johnson conceived and realized a powerful film of which Lucasfilm and Disney are immensely proud,” the announcement reads. “In shepherding this new trilogy, which is separate from the episodic Skywalker saga, Johnson will introduce new characters from a corner of the galaxy that Star Wars lore has never before explored.”

Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy praised Johnson in the statement saying; “He’s a creative force, and watching him craft The Last Jedi from start to finish was one of the great joys of my career. Rian will do amazing things with the blank canvas of this new trilogy.”
