We need more Norman – Bates Motel: Unconscious – Review

May 13, 2015

Bates Motel (A&E Channel)
Episode 10 – Unconscious
Season Three Finale

Spoilers Ahead. You have been warned.

Let me first say I hope this is just the season finale and not the series finale. As of the time of this article the show still has not been picked up for a fourth season. What are you waiting for A&E? This is a great show with an excellent cast. Plus us the viewers have a lot of questions that still need to be answered.

This episode started off on a slow note but came to a nice crescendo right before the credits. Yes for the first thirty five minutes of the show we get a lot of talk and buildup. We finally see Norma realize that Norman needs help. So she decides to take a trip out to a local institution in town. Where she finds out with no insurance this will be rather costly. Now do you think she is doing this to help Norman? In my opinion I think she is trying to hide Norman and keep him away from questioning that might becoming from the Sheriffs Department. Now that Bob Paris and Sheriff Romero know that Norman killed his father.

While that slowly pans out into nothing we get a little side story that is is annoying. Yes Emma is having health issues. I get it all the viewers get it. Let’s end it. Give her a new pair of lungs and get on to the relationship with Dylan. This will probably be a story line in Season Four that will have Norman killing Emma for breaking up with him to get involved with his brother Dylan. Or both of them dying. Either way this will be fun to watch hopefully next season.

This is where it starts to pick up and gets my blood flowing. Sheriff Romero hands over the flash drive to the DEA. Looks like Bob Paris and all his drug buddies are heading off to prison. Until Romero decides to warn Bob Paris that they are coming and he flees the house just in time. Or so we thought. Looks like Romero decides to take the law in his own hands and shoots Mr. Paris point blank on his boat before he can flee the United States. So glad to finally get rid of that scumbag.

Which finally brings us to the big climax of the season. Well now we know why they decided to bring back Bradley to town. At first I was saying the writers are running out of stories. Let’s bring back an old character that skipped town and everyone in White Pine Bay thought was dead. Just the exact opposite. Instead of killing Emma off which is what I thought was going to happen Bradley becomes Norman’s victim. This is where Freddie Highmore comes alive. You can just see it in his eyes when he transforms from Norman to Norma. When Norman / Norma runs Bradley down and yells ” No one gets between me and my son” while banging her head against a rock. All I can say is WOW. Then to top it off we see Norman as himself putting the dead corpse into the trunk of the car. As he lets the car slide into the bay he says ” I’m so sorry she did this to you”

Finally we see him from the front with his sinister looking eyes staring ahead. In the background we see his alter ego ” Mom” standing watching saying “I did her a favor more importantly she was going to take you away from me- We belong together”. What a great way to end the season.

There are so many questions that need to be answered. For one is Sheriff Romero on Norma’s side or will he be coming for the Bates family next? Where did Caleb go? Yes he left town but he needs to come back and stir the pot. Let’s us not forget the question of all questions. When and how does Mother die? So please A & E bring back this show. I know there is a following for it and social media is always buzzing on Monday nights. We all need and want Norman.
