Video service YouTube is taking a leap into something new for fans of the service and it might just change the way you watch television. In an announcement today, the web service introduced a new service called YouTube TV into specific markets including New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, the San Fransisco Bay Area and Philadelphia.
The service, which will cost $35 per month, will allow members to stream live television from ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, ESPN, Fox Sports Networks, Comcast SportsNet and dozens more. You will be able to access your local channels as well as cable channels like FX, USA, Disney Channel, Bravo, MSNBC, and Fox News. Additional networks are included with some available for an additional charge.
YouTube TV will be available to watch on your phone, tablet, or computer and any Smart TV with the Chromecast App or through the Chromecast itself. If you don’t have a Chromecast, YouTube will send you a complimentary one after your first month’s payment. You will also be able to record your favorite shows and store them on a Cloud DVR with no storage limits and your recordings will remain for nine months. All YouTube Red content will be available as well for members through the service along with the ability to share your YouTube TV membership with up to six people who will get their own recommendations for content as well as a personal Cloud DVR with no storage limit.
Additional channels will be available at launch with more to come later this year.
