10 Superhero Movies to Watch After You’re Done With That Essay

Superhero stories have been captivating the public for about 75 years now. But nowadays the screen adaptations are on the rise with huge franchises from Marvel and DC.

As soon as you are done with that essay you can delegate proofreading to edit my paper services and start a perfect night in with a good movie to watch. In this list, you’ll find films for any liking from the dark and philosophical ones to those on a lighter side.

Guardians of the Galaxy, 2014

When Marvel announced this adaptation a lot of people were not certain how to feel about it. The story about a space team with a raccoon and a tree in it seemed too campy for some. But it is truly a masterpiece of James Gunn.

It is incredibly funny, thrilling, and captivating. The cast is also very well-chosen and it is impossible to get distracted. Overall, it is a great feel-good movie with an excellent story and soundtrack.

The Dark Knight, 2008

The Dark Night is the second film in Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy. The whole trilogy is good, but this one is the most dearly loved by the fans and critics. This movie has a completely different tone from the previous one.

It is dark, gloomy, and has a philosophical underlayer. Heath Ledger plays Joker, which is one of the best portrayals of the character as of today. It is a thrilling crime saga that makes one think about what is good, what is evil, and where the line in between is.

Kick-Ass, 2010

This is not a conventional superhero story. Based on Mark Miller’s comic book, the story explores the idea of what if someone without powers decides to be a superhero. Why are there no superheroes in real life? What will happen if a guy decides to put on a suit and go out into the streets? Well, it probably won’t end well for him.

It has a lot of dark humor, fascinating fighting sequences, and a unique visual style. It is on a more gory side with lots of graphic violence. But all together it is a perfect mix for entertainment.

The Incredibles, 2004

Ok, it might be an unorthodox pick. But the Incredibles is an amazing animation about a family of superheroes that finds themselves to be illegal. The government decides that superhero activity comes with too much collateral damage and bans it. Yes, it sounds a bit like Captain America: Civil War plot, but it was shot before that.

So what do they do now? It is a funny and exciting animation that also deals with some interesting topics. For example, hiding one’s true self. And why it is not possible to just turn the powers off.

The Crow, 1994

If you are into something dark and not so popular, this one might be a perfect choice. This movie is notorious for being the last role of Brandon Lee, who tragically passed during the end of filming. But besides that, it is a dark and gothic story about vigilance.

The night before the wedding, a rock musician and his fiancée are murdered by a gang. Year after, on the anniversary of this brutal crime, the musician rises from the dead to act on his revenge. It is a thrilling plot with a lot of fighting and action.

Captain America: Winter Soldier, 2014

There is hardly a person that hasn’t heard about this one. Yet, even if you’ve seen it, maybe it is time to give it another watch. The second part of the Captain America trilogy is one of the best superhero movies out there. It is extremely well-made with a consistent plot, thrilling political and spy mysteries, and a great cast.

And the fight scenes and action sequences are truly on another level. They are incredibly choreographed and can amaze even the most experienced lovers of the genre.

X-MEN: First Class, 2011

X-Men is a universe with incredibly rich potential in itself. The original trilogy was excellent and gave life to this reboot. What sets this one apart is that it covers the story of Professor X and Magneto from the start. It shows how they met, how the school came to be, and what drove them apart. It is a beautiful, eye-grabbing, and emotional movie.

Of course, like any other film in the X-Men world, it deals with issues like self-acceptance, hiding one’s true nature, and dealing with powers. But it is also funny, visually pleasing, and shows some classic heroes in their beginning.

Birds of Prey, 2020

For some reason, this one gets a bit overlooked in the superhero genre, yet it is good. While it is funny and has a lot of humor, it also has some interesting topics to cover.

It is a story of Harley Quinn’s emancipation. She just broke up with Joker and is trying to find her place on her own. Margo Robbie is stunning in it, no doubt. It is interesting to watch her character stumble a bit just to find herself a new purpose and a new power inside her.

It is an empowering story with fast-paced action and bright visuals.

Black Panther, 2018

On the surface, one might think that this is just another superhero origin story. But it is much more than that. This film opens up a door to a new arch with outstanding characters. The character development is what makes this movie so good. And it goes not only to the protagonist but also to a “villain” and everyone who appears on the screen.

That’s why it is easy to see both points of the conflict and it is so hard to figure out who is right. There is no usual dichotomy of absolute good and absolute evil. It is a matter of perspective. It is refreshing to see the antagonist who has a philosophy and a purpose instead of being bad just for the sake of it.

Thor: Ragnarok, 2018

Taika Waititi brought new life into the Thor trilogy. While giving the story a new tone, he still managed to keep true to the origin. It is a hilarious film with excellent sequences and colorful worlds. Cate Blanchett is marvelous as a villain. And the returning cast is also fantastic. Overall, it is a fun and bright space adventure, despite what the title suggests.

Conclusion

Of course, it is hard to pick only 10 out of all captivating superhero movies. But you can start with one and then follow the trail to uncover more gems of the genre.
