There’s a lot of fans outraged at Sony as they continue to do everything in their power to stop Spider-Man from achieving its potential cinematic greatness.
Recently, the studio announced Tom Hardy would play Eddie Brock aka Venom in a solo film that has nothing to do with Tom Holland’s Spidey in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Venom is the arch-nemesis of Spider-Man and is one of those iconic villains fans would love to see done right, going up against the web-slinger at some-point.
But with Sony’s plans to have their own (bootleg) Marvel Universe with characters who are connected with Spidey, without Spider-Man himself it’s left fans a little disappointed.
Now Marvel’s president Kevin Feige has commented on the film’s connections in a recent interview with AlloCine:
“For now, there is no plan for Venom in the MCU. It’s a Sony Project.”
Obviously things can change, you’ve seen it happen with Spider-Man. At one point having him interact with Iron Man, Captain America and co. as part of the MCU was a pipe dream.
But for right now, Venom has nothing to do with Marvel. Like a lot of people, I don’t want a Venom film without a Spider-Man connection. It. Is. Ridiculous.
Your average filmgoer will be left confused by the lack of continuity. Especially with the MCU dominating the cinematic landscape. But hey ho, Sony obviously know best.
