While Aladdin is currently filming in London, we’ve decided to take a look at the production team assembled by director Guy Ritchie and Disney. It’s an interesting mix of Ritchie alum and folks who have worked on big comic book films.
Alan Stewart will be moving up from second unit cinematographer to main cinematographer on Aladdin. His second unit credits include Sherlock Holmes, Mary Poppins Returns, King Arthur, and Spectre.
Oscar nominated production designer Gemma Jackson is also on the project. Her credits include Finding Neverland, Game of Thrones, and King Arthur. She’ll be working alongside set decorator Tina Jones (Assassin’s Creed, Hercules, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom) , who is another Arthur and Thrones alum.
There are also quite a few on the production team that have worked on big comic book films.
Aladdin’s costume designer Michael Wilkinson is one of the only people that didn’t work on King Arthur. However, his extensive credits are impressive as they include 300, Watchmen, Justice League, Tron: Legacy, Batman v Superman, Man of Steel, and Noah.
The film’s special effects supervisor Mark Holt is no stranger to the DCEU either working on Wonder Woman and Justice League. Visual effects supervisor Chas Jarrett previously worked on Logan and the Sherlock Holmes films.
Adam Kirley, the stunt coordinator worked on Kingsman: The Secret Service and Kingsman: The Golden Circle.
The cast includes Will Smith as the Genie, Mena Massoud as Aladdin, Naomi Scott as Jasmine, Marwan Kenzari as Jafar, and Navid Negahban as The Sultun.
Disney has set Aladdin’s release date for May 24th, 2019.
