To kick off the 20th Century Fox CinemaCon panel a slew of Vegas dancers came on stage to promote Deadpool 2. After which an introduction video was shown that features Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) as he partied way to hard with Fox Distribution Chief & panel host Chris Aronson last night. The hilarious video has Mr. Aronson dressed in Hugh Jackman’s The Greatest Showman outfit as Hugh Jackman also comes on-screen. The two exchange a few words on how big both their films were in 2016 and 2017 respectively before leaving.To which Deadpool jokes “Wow Comcast really dodged a bullet there”
The panel then officially begins with the studio highlighting the past century of films. With the CEO of Fox mentioning that while no information was given the future “potential” merger (With Walt Disney) will bring great things to the company. From here Producer John Landau and director Robert Rodriguez come on stage to unveil a brand new 3D trailer for Alita: Battle Angel as well as 2 exclusive scenes. The first scene shows Alita as she wakes up in her brand new cyborg body. The second scenes features her in an action sequences and all the martial arts her cyborg body knows.
Next the studio brought us first footage for The Hate U Give which features a new studio about a young black girl who lives in low-income housing but attends a mostly white prep school. However, after her life long friend is shot by a cop she is compelled to stand up for other minorities. Next, trailers were shown for Drew Goddard’s Bad Times at the El Royale. A mysterious hotel that has half of the building set in California and the other in Nevada. They then showed another trailer for the young adult movie The Darkest Minds. Which looks very much like another X-Men movie without the X-Men.
We were then shown footage for Steve McQueen’s Widows as well as the very first look at Shane Black’s The Predator. While not much of the actual Predator was shown. It does give you atone for the film which is more action-adventure and less alien-horror.
To close out the show star Rami Malek comes on stage to talk about his love for Queen front man Freddie Mercury and introduce the very first footage for Bohemian Rhapsody. Which shows his rise to stardom in England before becoming the legend we all know him for. The studio then showed a montage of films coming out in 2019 including Dark Phoenix (X-Men seems to be dropped from the title) as well as The New Mutants new release date. Which should put to rest any recent internet rumors that all Fox properties will be scrapped after Dark Phoenix is released next February.
