Nick Knickerbocker is back! Yes I am talking about the Captain Gorgeous himself. While Goof has normally been a fun and lighthearted romp issue 4 takes a new direction. I have to hand it to Guy Hasson for taking on a serious matter like suicide. You would think that there is no way you could write about something so serious in a comic that is usually full of slapstick and just plain goofy. Well think again. Guy came up with a great way of mixing humor with serious weight to accompanies a story line involving suicide.
You might be thinking “no way, you can’t make fun of suicide.” Well just relax because that’s not what this issue is doing. He tells the story of a young girl named Jessica Roth who is ready leap off a building to end her life. As the Captain flys by he rescues her , but happens to take her again to the roof. From here we see funny things that have happened to the Captain in previous comics ( By the way they are now available on Comixology ). Here we can laugh a little at Nick as he tries to talk Jessica out of suicide by making fun of himself. What happens? Does Captain Gorgeous save the day? You will need to read the issue to find out.
With all the things happening in the World right now Goof #4 couldn’t have come out at a better time. Its a good reminder to look around and just make sure you say hi to people; let them know they are noticed and not alone or forgotten. Sometimes that’s all it takes to make someone smile and forget there troubles or thoughts of leaving this world behind. If you know someone who is depressed or just doesn’t seem happy in this world, please hand them Goof #4 and lets see if Captain Gorgeous can bring a smile to their face and warm their heart.
