Yesterday, Netflix announced three Millarworld movies are currently in-development as they have set screenwriters for films based on Mark Millar properties including the space opera Empress.
Queen Emporia is married to (literally) the worst dictator in the galaxy, King Morax. After escaping his palace with her children [Aine, Adam, and Puck], Emporia and her family, must hide from Morax and his army at all costs — even if it takes teleporting from planet to planet to avoid them.
Screenwriter Lindsey Beer is set to pen the screenplay and has become a rising talent in Hollywood recently. Beer’s impressive action film credits include Godzilla vs Kong, Chaos Walking, Masters of The Universe, Silver and Black, Dungeons and Dragons, and M.A.S.K.: Mobile Armored Strike Kommand.
A director has yet to be named but considering the scale of the film and Beer writing, there is a good chance they’ll be announcing a well established film director for Empress.
The other two Millarworld movies include Huck and Sharkey The Bounty Hunter.
In a quiet seaside town, Huck uses his special gifts to do a good deed each day. His neighbors return the favors by keeping his abilities a secret. But when a newcomer alerts the media, a firestorm erupts, sending Huck on an adventure that will change everything.
Set in a brilliant new sci-fi universe, Sharkey is a blue-collar bounty-hunter tracking criminals across the galaxy in his converted, rocket-powered ice-cream truck. Aided and abetted by his ten-year-old partner, he’s out for the biggest bounty of his career.
I’ll be honest, between Huck and Sharkey, the latter sounds the more interesting and to my taste. Scott Pilgrim and 21 Jump Street screenwriter Michael Bacall will pen Sharkey while Hidden Figures screenwriter Ted Melfi will handle Huck.
It’s currently unknown when any of these films will begin filming or will be released.
