Anytime you read something Deadpool-related, you should assume at least one or two people are going to die. It’s almost weirder when someone doesn’t.

However, the number of people who actually died in Deadpool Assassin #5 caught me off guard. (Which is on me. Deadpool Assassin is kind of a dead giveaway.)

By my count, I estimate that just over 50 people died in this issue. Some may say that’s excessive, I say that makes for a rock-solid issue of Deadpool.

I guess what’s more mind-blowing is who actually died in this issue. Deadpool is dealing with the Assassins Guild. He’s got some serious high rollers outside of Belladonna Boudreaux’s typical henchmen. He even has to deal with Belladonna herself. Meanwhile, Weasel has his hands full. All of it made for some great action.

Per usual, the issue is filled with Deadpool breaking the fourth wall, and includes one of his better monologues in recent memory, coming right before his big fight. Throughout Deadpool’s history, characters have caught him during his long talks with the audience a fair amount. Deadpool usually just slides past their interruption and moves back into the major topic at hand. He did not do that this time when Belladonna called him out, making for one of the funnier moments of Deadpool Assassin #5.

The twist at the end was…confusing. It wasn’t a bad decision by Cullen Bunn by any stretch. I just don’t fully get why things shook up the way they did and how things will wind up in Deadpool Assassin #6. Though I guess that’s not a bad thing!

Mark Bagley did a great job with the art. Big fan of the detail in Deadpool’s fight scenes. I also think he and the color artists, Edgar Delgado and Dono Sanchez-Almara, did an exceptional job with Threnody’s major moments in the fight with the Assassins Guild’s henchmen.
