Production on Disney’s upcoming live-action adaption of Mulan is well underway. Now our friends over at The DisInsider have learned that sarcastic family protector Mushu (Originally voiced by Eddie Murphy) will indeed be featured in the upcoming film. The character was originally not going to be added as the film was going to be based more on the legend of Mulan and not the Disney animated feature. However, it seems through rewrites the character will indeed appear as well as music from the original film.
For years Eddie Murphy admitted he would return and voice Mushu if a live-action Mulan film was ever made. However, due to his Shrek contract at Dreamworks, it seems unlikely he will be allowed to provide the voice for the beloved character. It is interesting who they cast as Mushu other than Eddie Murphy. Mulan stars Liu Yifei, Donnie Yen and Jet Li. And will be directed by Niki Caro.
Mulan hits March 27th, 2020
