The Black Widow movie is finally moving ahead and there are some new possible plot points are being rumored.
Thanks to our friends over at MCUCosmic there is a rumbling that the solo film could be possibly set around late 1999 and the Y2K panic. A computing flaw that many thought could become a massive global disaster, but turned out to be a big nothing.
According to the rumor, the Y2K bug on December 31, 1999 will play some part in the plot of Black Widow. In Captain America: The Winter Soldier, it was confirmed that Natasha Romanoff was born in 1984; so that would make her 16 at the time of Y2K. Based that age and on the flashbacks in Avengers: Age of Ultron, that would place her still under the control of the Red Room and likely not with S.H.I.E.L.D.
If this rumor is true it would suggest Natasha would be a teenager in the film as she would be around 15-16 in 1999. Having her more likely still involved with the Red Room/Widow Program at the time and not SHIELD.
Keep in mind, this same outlet was the first to report that Marvel Studios was developing a movie based on The Eternals. Later, screenwriters and a director would be named in trade reports confirming the project.
Production dates have yet to be revealed but there is an expectation that filming could begin sometime between spring or summer of next year.
Black Widow is without a release date but there is an assumption it will be ready for 2020.
