Netflix Developing ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’ into a TV Series & Feature Films

Oct 3, 2018

In some surprising news, today, it was announced that Netflix will be partnering with Entertainment One into developing a new series of films and possible TV series on The Chronicles of Narnia. This comes after Joe Johnston was attached to direct a semi-reboot in The Silver Chair with Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown courted for a lead role. However, due to this new deal that film is almost certainly canned.

This all comes after Disney developed 3 feature films between 2005 and 2010 based on the first 3 books of the series; The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe,  Prince Caspian and Voyage on the Dawn Treader. Which grossed over $1.5 billion at the worldwide box office. This new deal with Netflix we assume will reboot the entire series from the beginning. The report does mention a TV Series is also being considered to be used in a cinemtaic universe alongside the films.

Chief Content Officer from Netflix Ted Sarandos adds:

“C.S. Lewis’ beloved Chronicles of Narnia stories have resonated with generations of readers around the world.   Families have fallen in love with characters like Aslan and the entire world of Narnia, and we’re thrilled to be their home for years to come.”

Lastly, Producer Mark Gordon remarks:

“Narnia is one of those rare properties that spans multiple generations and geographies. eOne and I are excited to be collaborating with The C.S. Lewis Company and Netflix who have the capacity to translate the Narnia universe into both stellar feature-length and episodic programming. We cannot wait to get started on the multiple productions we hope to undertake.”
