Today, our friends over at The DisInsider have posted a news story that Disney is courting Lady Gaga for the role of the evil Ursala in their upcoming live-action remake of The Little Mermaid. While they couldn’t confirm if an offer is in place; the rumor does make sense. Just this week Lady Gaga’s film A Star is Born co-starring Bradley Cooper has been met with glowing reviews from fans and critics alike. She is slowly becoming a hot name in film after also being offered a role in DC’s Birds of Prey. Like Jared Leto, it’s unknown how much free time Lady Gaga will have apart from touring live with her musical career.
The site also mentioned that the studio wanted to go with Zendaya (Spider-Man: Homecoming, The Greatest Showman) for the role of Ariel, however, no offer has been made to her either at this point. The Little Mermaid will join a slew of live-action adaptations for Disney which include Beauty & The Beast, The Lion King and Alladin.
Rob Marshall will direct the film with a screenplay by Jane Goldman. With production expected to be filmed in Puerto Rico and Cape Town, South Africa.
The Little Mermaid has no set release date
