Jon Bernthal and Vera Farmiga are set to join the cast of New Line’s ‘The Many Saints of Newark.’ The film is a prequel to the critically acclaimed HBO series ‘The Sopranos.’
Plot details are vague other than the film being set during the Newark riots in the ’60s. The exact roles of Bernthal and Farmiga have yet to be revealed. More players from the ‘Sopranos’ lore are expected to be joining the cast.
Bernthal’s Netflix series ‘The Punisher’ premieres its second season this Friday. He will next star in the indie film ‘Peanut Butter Falcon’ alongside Shia LaBeouf. Moreover, he stars in James Mangold’s untitled Ford vs. Ferrari movie, which releases June 28.
Farmiga, who recently starred with Hugh Jackman in ‘The Front Runner.’ She will be seen next in Legendary’s ‘Godzilla: King of the Monsters’, which releases May 31. Also, she stars in Participant’s ‘Captive State,’ which releases March 29. Currently, she is filming the Netflix series ‘Central Park Five.’
So far, Alan Taylor is directing a script from series creator David Chase and producer Lawrence Konner. Meanwhile, Chase has been hands on in the casting process, hand-picking Alessandro Nivola to play Dickie Moltisanti. Now, we have Bernthal and Farmiga in their mystery roles.
HN Entertainment learned that filming will begin on April 3rd and is expected to wrap on June 10th. Locations will include various parts of New York and New Jersey. Moreover, they have hired production designer Bob Shaw. His credits include ‘The Wolf of Wall Street,’ ‘The Irishman,’ ‘Boardwalk Empire.’ Also, he worked on the original ‘Sopranos’ series.
A release date for the film has yet to be officially announced by New Line Cinema.
