‘The SpongeBob Movie: It’s a Wonderful Sponge’ will now be releasing two months earlier. May 22, 2020 is the new date, up from July 17, 2020.
The screenplay is from Jonathan Aibel & Glenn Berger (‘Kung Fu Panda’ trilogy) and Michael Kvamme, with Tim Hill directing. Hill is a longtime collaborator of ‘SpongeBob,’ being both a writer and one of the developers of the television series. Paramount’s first two ‘SpongeBob’ movies grossed $465M worldwide. They pledged not to take as long as 11 years to make another sequel, a promise that is being kept.
Moreover, Paramount is pushing up another film. Their untitled animated feature is now set for the just-vacated July 17, 2020, up from August 7, 2020.
Currently, the only competition for ‘SpongeBob’ on this new weekend is Warner Bros. ‘Godzilla vs. Kong.’
