What was your first Cosplay Experience?
My first cosplay experience was at Amazing Las Vegas Comic Con in 2013. I cosplayed as Psylocke in one of her earlier X-Force costumes. This costume I bought from fellowcosplayer @NonStopToTokyo so that I could test the waters and see if cosplaying would be as fun for me as it looked. I didn’t want to spend a load of money buying a sewing machine and everything else unless I was sure it would be worth it. After that first experience, I started making my own costumes with the help of my husband @RonBirdArt.
How long have you been Cosplaying?
I have been cosplaying for a little over a year now since June 2013.
Who or What inspired you to take up Cosplaying?
I have always known about cosplaying and thought it looked like fun, but I’m a shy girl, so I never had the courage to do it myself until I met @Ridd1e at Las Vegas Comic Expo in 2012. I told her about all of my fears and she gave me such encouraging advice.
If you had to pick a favorite Cosplay you have worn or see someone else where What would it be?
I couldn’t possible choose a favorite cosplay I have seen someone else play. I see more and more amazing costumes everyday. I love how creative this hobby is and how inspired I get when seeing other cosplayers. I also love how supportive cosplayers are of one another. If you need help, there are plenty of them out there who have no problem with answering your questions or pointing you in the right direction. As for my own cosplays, my favorite is the Kris Anka Psylocke costume. To be honest, the classic Jim Lee Psylocke costume will always be my favorite for the character, but as far as making and wearing, my favorite has been the Kris Anka version so far. It took me a few months to warm up to her new costume, but once I put it on and walk the convention floor, I feel like such a bad ass.
If you had unlimited funds and resources, what Cosplay would you create?
This is such a tough question because I am constantly adding to my long list of cosplays that I plan on making in the future. I do eventually want to make Psylocke’s Lady Mandarin costume.
What advice would you offer others who are aspiring Cosplayers?
I would say just go for it. It’s a hobby filled with creativity and fun. You make so many friends and it really is a great confidence builder. You aren’t going to a casting call to be in a movie, so don’t worry about not looking exactly like whatever character you want to cosplay as. You’re just having fun and showing love for your favorite characters with other fans.
