STX Entertainment’s ‘Greenland’ is currently eyeing a May 20th production start in Toronto, Canada. The film was originally in development with ‘District 9’ director Neill Blomkamp and Captain America actor Chris Evans. However, that is no longer the case.
Director Ric Roman Waugh (‘Snitch,’ ‘Shot Caller,’) is now onboard to helm the long-gestating project. The screenplay is from Chris Sparling (‘Buried,’ ‘Down a Dark Hall’). Meanwhile, Waugh’s recent film is ‘Angel Has Fallen,’ the upcoming third installment in the franchise, releasing August 23rd. Gerard Butler has been in each of the ‘Fallen’ films.
Speaking of Butler, he will take on the lead role in ‘Greenland,’ reuniting with Waugh. He is best known for playing King Leonidas in Zack Snyder’s ‘300.’ Last year, he was in STX Entertainment’s ‘Den of Thieves’ and Lionsgate’s ‘Hunter Killer.’ He recently came back to reprise his role of Stoick in the third ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ film.
The premise of ‘Greenland’ is below:
“A disaster thriller about one family’s fight for survival in the face of a cataclysmic natural disaster.”
The film currently does not have a release date yet.
