Legendary’s reboot of ‘The Toxic Avenger’ now has Macon Blair onboard to write and direct the film. The rights of the cult classic went to Legendary last December, and it’s already found its helmer.
Blair has had acting roles in all four of director Jeremy Saulnier’s movies. Those movies include ‘Murder Party,’ ‘Blue Ruin,’ ‘Green Room,’ and ‘Hold the Dark.’ The last of those was written by Blair. Also, he co-wrote the Netflix film ‘Small Crimes,’ starring Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. Then, with 2017’s acclaimed ‘I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore.’ Blair made his directorial debut, and also wrote the screenplay.
Below is the premise of the original 1984 comedy:
“The story focuses on a mild-mannered janitor in the fictional town of Tromaville, New Jersey. One day, bullies chase him and he falls out a second story window, making him land in a drum of toxic waste. The chemicals cause him to transform into the Toxic Avenger. He has superhuman size and strength and stands up to bullies and corruption.”
The film lead to three sequels, a stage musical production, a children’s cartoon TV series, and a Marvel comic.
There is no cast, filming dates, or release date yet.
