One of four things can happen with The Batman Who Laughs mini-series after The Batman Who Laughs #5:
- Batman reveals he’s been ahead of The Batman Who Laughs for a considerable amount of time or the entire time. (Not likely.)
- Batman pulls off a miracle and saves the day. (Likely.) (This could include someone working with The Batman Who Laughs screwing something up and indirectly helping Batman. Looking at you, Grim Knight.)
- Someone else comes in out of nowhere and saves Batman.
- The Batman Who Laughs wins.
It’s not like these four options are unique to this story, but it’s not every day where there appears to be an even chance of each one happening. Even then, Scott Snyder has made it feel like this is The Batman Who Laughs’ fight to lose.
(Major spoilers ahead if you haven’t Red The Batman Who Laughs #5.)
Up until the very end of The Batman Who Laughs #5, Bruce Wayne had done an outstanding job of fighting off Joker’s toxin. Then Batman seemingly fell into The Batman Who Laughs’ plan. Or did Batman pull a fast one? There’s also the chance he’s rolling the dice because he knows taking this step could help turn the tides in what seems like an unwinnable fight for Batman.
We’ve also got another evil Batman in the fray — one who ran the Court of Owls. Snyder really seems to be showing off his creativity with The Batman Who Laughs’ roster. It’d be cool to get maybe one more evil Batman spinoff, though the three we have are great.
We may be near the end, but it can’t be stressed enough that this is a series for any fan. Batman or Superman, Marvel or DC, it’s a non-stop thrill ride. Hop on before it’s all over. (Or wait for the trade and definitely pre-order it if that’s an option.)
