The upcoming live-action/hybrid feature adaptation of the animated series ‘Tom and Jerry’ now has Colin Jost onboard the cast. His role is unknown.
Jost is the Weekend Update co-anchor and co-head writer on NBC’s ‘Saturday Night Live.’ His film credits include Paramount’s ‘Staten Island Summer,’ which he also wrote, and Warner Bros.’ ‘How to Be Single.’
Michael Peña (‘Ant-Man and the Wasp,’ ‘Narcos: Mexico’) will play Terrance, the deputy general manager of the elegant Park Hotel. Chloë Grace Moretz (‘Kick-Ass,’ ‘Suspiria’) will play Kayla, a new temporary hire at the hotel where Jerry is staying. Worried for her job, she hires a broke alley cat, Tom, to get rid of the mouse.
Additionally, the plan is to shoot in the real world with 2D animated versions of the familiar cat and mouse pair. Since Tom and Jerry didn’t speak and relied on physical comedy to draw laughs, this version will stick to that style and not cast actors to voice the duo.
Moreover, Tim Story (‘Ride Along’ and 2000’s ‘Fantastic Four’ franchises) will direct. The screenplay is from Bryan Schulz & Cornelius Uliano (‘The Peanuts Movie’), and Kevin Costello (‘Brigsby Bear’). However, Collider states that writers Katie Silberman (‘Booksmart’) and April Prosser (‘The Last Summer’) are also credited.
Meanwhile, filming should be filming soon in Warner Bros. Studios, Leavesden. Also, cinematographer Alan Stewart (Guy Ritchie’s ‘Aladdin’ and ‘The Gentlemen’) is part of the crew.
Warner Bros. will release the film on April 16th, 2021.
