Amazon’s multi-season ‘The Lord of the Rings’ television series now has J.A. Bayona onboard to direct the first two episodes.
Last year, Bayona helmed ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom,’ the follow-up to the 2015 soft reboot. His other film credits include Summit’s ‘The Impossible’ and Lionsgate’s ‘A Monster Calls.’ For television, he did two episodes of Showtime’s ‘Penny Dreadful.’
Bayona also gave a comment regarding his involvement with the series:
“J.R.R. Tolkien created one of the most extraordinary and inspiring stories of all time, and as a lifelong fan it is an honor and a joy to join this amazing team. I can’t wait to take audiences around the world to Middle-earth and have them discover the wonders of the Second Age, with a never before seen story.”
Moreover, JD Payne and Patrick McKay (‘Star Trek Beyond,’ ‘Jungle Cruise’) lead the writers room for the series. Bryan Cogman (‘Game of Thrones,’ ‘The Sword in the Stone’) and Gennifer Hutchison (‘Breaking Bad,’ ‘Better Call Saul’) are also part of the room.
Further, the series will likely return to New Zealand for filming, like the original ‘Rings’ films and the ‘Hobbit’ trilogy. The budget for the entire series may also be $1 billion.
However, there is currently no premiere date for the currently untitled series.
