Dean DeBlois is staying one busy man! After the conclusion of the How to Train Your Dragon Trilogy this year, he joined Paramount/Hasbro for their upcoming Micronauts film, slated to be his first live-action feature. And he still has yet more work lined up for him.
Per Deadline, Universal Pictures and Mandeville Films are teaming up for a new adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s most famous work, Treasure Island, with DeBlois already set to fill the director’s chair and Evan Spiliotopoulos handling screenwriting duties. No specifics on a release date or production schedule were offered.
While the deal is still being finalized, it’s likely that Micronauts will be DeBlois’ next feature in order to meet its scheduled June 4, 2021 release date.
Treasure Island is a story that’s been adapted many times over, having seen more than 50 adaptations on the big and small screens. The most recent notable adaptation was Disney’s 2002 sci-fi reimagining of the story, Treasure Planet.
