For the second season of ‘The Mandalorian,’ the first live-action ‘Star Wars’ series, cast member Carl Weathers will direct an episode. The announcement was made at today’s press conference for the series.
Weathers most recently directed an episode of the CBS series ‘Hawaii Five-0.’ He has also helmed several episodes of CBS/USA’s ‘Silk Stalkings,’ Paramount Network’s ’18 Wheels of Justice,’ and Columbia TriStar’s ‘Sheena.’ Weathers plays Greef Carga in ‘The Mandalorian,’ the leader of the bounty hunters guild, who asks The Mandalorian to take on an assignment that nobody else wants.
Creator and showrunner Jon Favreau will also direct an episode of the second season, which is currently filming. Favreau recently directed two Disney remakes: ‘The Jungle Book’ and ‘The Lion King,’ and kick-started the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with ‘Iron Man’ and ‘Iron Man 2.’
Meanwhile, here are the directors, and their episodes, of the first season:
- Dave Filoni (‘Avatar: The Last Airbender,’ ‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars’) for Episodes 1 and 5
- Rick Famuyiwa (‘Dope,’ ‘The Chi’) for Episodes 2 and 6
- Deborah Chow (‘Mr. Robot,’ ‘American Gods’) for Episodes 3 and 7
- Bryce Dallas Howard (‘Solemates,’ ‘Dads’) for Episode 4
- Taika Waititi (‘Hunt for the Wilderpeople,’ ‘Thor: Ragnarok’) for Episode 8
The writers for season one consist of Jon Favreau (‘Swingers,’ ‘Chef’), Dave Filoni (‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars,’ ‘Star Wars: Rebels’), Rick Famuyiwa (‘Brown Sugar,’ ‘Dope’), and Chris Yost (‘‘The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes,’ ‘Thor: Ragnarok’).
Moreover, the premise is below:
“After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. ‘The Mandalorian’ is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic….”
The rest of the cast comprises of Pedro Pascal, Gina Carano, Nick Nolte, Giancarlo Esposito, Emily Swallow, Omid Abtahi, Bill Burr, Julia Jones, Taika Waititi, Ming-Na Wen, and Werner Herzog. Jon Favreau and Bryce Dallas Howard may have acting roles in the show as well.
‘The Mandalorian’ will premiere its first season on November 12th, when the Disney+ streaming service launches.
