We all knew that this was inevitable. After wowing audiences and winning Best Animated Film at the Oscars, there was no way that Sony Pictures would resist the urge to follow up last year’s ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.’ There had even been some talk and teases on what exactly the studio had in mind for the future of the ‘Spider-Verse’ franchise beyond just one sequel. So it was always just a matter of when the next film would arrive in theaters.
Over the weekend, the film’s official Twitter account posted a teaser video with the caption “April 8, 2022 #SpiderVerse,” finally announcing the sequel’s release date.

Aside from the release date, no other official details about the film have been made yet. However fans were quick to notice that the teaser video alternated between several different variations of the Spider emblem, potentially teasing which other Spider-People that series protagonist Miles Morales might encounter this time around.
With a bit of luck, long time fans of the web-headed hero might finally get to see Miguel O’Hara (Spider-Man 2099) on the big screen! Considering that the first film capped off with a post credits scene where Miguel (voiced by Oscar Isaac) traveled in time to “where it all began,” it seems likely that he will receive a more prominent role in a future film.
The only other film releasing on April 8, 2022, as of now, is an untitled Universal Event Film.
