Season 1, Episode 13 “Stars & S.T.R.I.P.E. Part Two”
That’s all folks. Season one is officially in the books and it was a lackluster finish. With everything on the line the Justice Society must act fast before it’s too late to stop the Injustice Society. Will they be able to figure out how to turn off the machine in time to save Blue Valley and parts of the United States?
The last two episodes were the most action filled of the season. We get to see all the members including Solamon Grundy fight. Having the first team battle was exhilarating as all members were able to go all out. The fight sequences and the set ups were the stand out part of the episode. Especially when Hournan got to go finally get a chance against Gunday.
One of the biggest glaring issues with this episode was how easy everything fell into place for the JSA. Some of the hardest villains were beaten as easy as crumpling papers and the others just disappeared. This lack of conflict made all the build up feel pointless and just haphazardly rushed to focus on season 2.
One thing about the series that was unique was how many of the characters had plot immunity. As the episodes progressed we got used to not knowing who would make it or not. This episode showed its hand early and you could already see who would survive till the end. With the showrunners not giving viewers a sense of danger it takes the sense of urgency out of the fight.
The episode was dull overall and a paint by numbers ending. It felt like the previous 12 episodes were ignored so that they could start focusing on season 2, now that it is moving to the CW. Even that setup felt like it was chosen by randomly selecting the sequence by using google autocomplete. The fight choreography and the effects were amazing. Having Grundy finally revealed at the end was great and was the only sense of danger. Beyond that, everything else was meh.
