Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo delivered on all of Dark Nights: Death Metal’s first six issues. Still, that doesn’t guarantee a successful finale. They still had to land the plane with Dark Nights: Death Metal #7.

In fact, in some ways, Snyder and Capullo made life a bit harder for themselves because of how well they did with the first six issues of DC Comics’ major event.

Thankfully for DC readers, these industry titans did not disappoint.

After reading Dark Nights: Death Metal #7, it is now safe to say: Snyder and Capullo have raised the bar for comic book events. The entire industry also has the chance to grow because of Dark Nights: Death Metal, not just DC Comics.

(WARNING: Spoilers for Dark Nights: Death Metal #7 ahead.)

First off, this whole event was both fun and intense.

Second, and perhaps more importantly, Snyder both set the table well for DC Future State and gave the company a clear path to move on from that event should things flop. At the same time, there’s it feels like there’s so much up in the air with DC’s traditional characters following the events of Dark Nights: Death Metal — which is both exciting and worrisome.

Looking specifically at Dark Nights: Death Metal #7: the action in this issue is outstanding. Snyder tied everything together nicely, but this issue was all about Capullo. The zombified Bat Family was a sight to behold. Golden Wonder Woman is an absolute rock star. The list goes on. There’s a reason he’s one of the best to ever do it, and whoever’s decision it was to unleash Capullo this issue needs to call the shots more often.
