It’s finally happened as the missing piece to the Marvel Disney Plus puzzel appears to be falling into place. Variety is reporting Sony and Disney have signed a massice movie licensing pact that will bring the Spider-Man films and other Sony Marvel properties to the Disney owned streaming services like Disney Plus and Hulu.
The deal is currently set to run through Sony’s 2026 theatrical slate and will but will still see the titles land on Netflix first, then after a 9 month window on that service they will move to the Disney family of streaming services.
“This landmark multi-year, platform-agnostic agreement guarantees the team at Disney Media and Entertainment Distribution a tremendous amount of flexibility and breadth of programming possibilities to leverage Sony’s rich slate of award-winning action and family films across our direct-to-consumer services and linear channels, This is a win for fans, who will benefit from the ability to access the very best content from two of Hollywood’s most prolific studios across a multitude of viewing platforms and experiences.”
-Chuck Saftler, head of business operations for ABC, Freeform, FX, and Acquisitions for Disney’s Media and Entertainment Distribution
This new deal is surely going to please Marvel fans as many have been longing for the Spider-Man family of films to land on Disney Plus to offer MCU lovers access to a complete Marvel Cinematic experience all in one place. It’s also interesting that this means the older Spider-Man films will land on Disney Plus as well, just as Marvel is rumored to be bringing characters from those films back into the MCU fold, this could be another clue to indicate Spider-Man: No Way Home is exactly what we think it is.
