It’s pretty safe to say that if James Tynion IV is writing it, I’m reading it. Whether it’s superheroes or the supernatural, Tynion has been writing some of the best stuff in comics. The Nice House On The Lake is no exception.

At first glance, The Nice House On The Lake has all the hallmark signs of a classic murder mystery. Right away the story feels eerily similar to Agatha Christie’s “And Then There Were None,” however, there are certainly differences that make it unique. Just when you think you’re getting a simple “who done it,” Tynion pulls the rug out from under you, giving us something way more complex and captivating.

“The Nice House On The Lake #1 start of what feels like a can’t-miss horror story…”

What makes The Nice House On The Lake stand out is it’s storytelling. We are given clues through both the art and ominous narration that something sinister is afoot. While we aren’t privy to what that is initially, we will soon find out, like a sucker punch to the face. Tynion’s slow build of character introduction and a feeling of an all to perfect scenario is what helps create the epic final moments that transpire at the end of The Nice House On The Lake #1.

In addition to Tynion’s great storytelling, Alvaro Martinez Bueno’s art helps capture the tone of the story perfectly. Much like Tynion’s sudden change in plot direction, Bueno’s art goes from blissful to foreboding, which helps amplify the shocking turn the story takes.
