To say The Witcher: Witch’s Lament #2 took an unexpected turn would be putting it lightly. The tone of the story has changed immensely following this week’s issue. Bartosz Sztybor took a dark fantasy and turned this into a heavy story that’s dealing with a real-life issue. I did not see it coming at all.
But with the way The Witcher: Witch’s Lament #2 ended, readers may have to wait a bit before they get any more on the serious subject matter. It seems like readers are in store for a little action next issue. Not entirely sure how that’ll play — this artwork caters more to the weird vibes of The Witcher’s world.
Speaking of which, I expressed some frustration with the art after reading the first issue of The Witcher: Witch’s Lament. This art still wouldn’t be my first choice, but it feels much more fitting now that Sztybor’s intent with the story is a bit clearer. The art should, above all else, reflect the tone of the story, and this particular Geralt tale is a rather strange one.

Just needed to get this out there: did anyone else stop and think “Geralt is at the medieval, supernatural equivalent of an AA meeting?” The idea of the meeting itself isn’t the most bizarre thing from the issue, but it was certainly an odd choice — that I liked very much. Clearly, it was crucial part to the issue, serving as a catalyst for the major developments in The Witcher: Witch’s Lament #2.
One of those major developments being Giltine expressing the issue she’s battling with. A jaw-dropping moment to say the least, completely changing the tone of the story and how Geralt has to approach things.
