BATMAN VS BIGBY! A WOLF IN GOTHAM #2 (REVIEW)

I mentioned wanting some relief in the form of revelations after episode 1. Payoff starts fast and furious in episode 2, from an unexpected outcome close to home for Batman, to an unlikely ally to the headlining wolf, Bigby, as he searches for an important book. By now I’m interested in going back to find out more about Fables, from which Bigby and several others in this Batman series have come to Gotham City to wreak havoc. But I will try to resist for the sake of learning what a reader can appreciate about this series coming in without prior knowledge of that part of the ‘verse.

The art and panel layout work continues to be both creative and excellent, without being overindulgent throughout this issue. This issue contains lots of surprises and continued suspense, but with more secrets for the reader, many of which the Batman has yet to find out for himself.

Just as things seem to get a bit clearer with Bigby, the plot expands, as a devastating event occurs that appears to shock both Bigby and Batman in real time. I am not at all out of anticipation for more. I still want more answers, but at least I have had a better glimpse of “Big Bad” Bigby. It is not easy to resist doing research on Fables; my interest in them is definitely piqued. But I want to see how this series goes as it develops its own legs… and I hope to see more than just cover shots of fangs and paws as the story walks itself forward.

Score 7.5

SUMMARY:

Issue #2 of the Batman vs Bigby! series by DC Black Label reveals more of what is to come, while continuing to leave us with intrigue yet to be uncovered  Some is only hidden from Batman; we readers get a peek at a few big secrets this time, some with and some without our main protagonist along for the ride. The art continues to be a strong point, yet this story continues to leave me with many questions for which I need answers before the next full moon.
