Wastelanders: Wolverine #1
Wastelanders: Wolverine #1 picks things up exactly where Mark Millar and Steve McNiven left off with their must-read Marvel series, Wolverine: Old Man Logan. Steven S. DeKnight and Ibrahim Moustafa’s story is only set a few days after the final events of the legendary Wolverine series.

For those who haven’t read Millar’s legendary Marvel story, Wastelanders: Wolverine #1 will be an enjoyable read. There’s some rehash of what happened in Wolverine: Old Man Logan, catching everyone up on perhaps Wolverine’s most frustrating occurrence in his life. You get enough context to have an understanding of what’s going on.
For those who know Old Man Logan’s story, this is merely a brief update that serves a slight extension of the original story’s conclusion. Sure, there’s some Wolverine action mixed in, and we get a look at his developing relationship with Bruce Banner Jr. We also get a significant update on another major player from Wolverine: Old Man Logan. But there’s not much else for those who’ve already read Wolverine: Old Man Logan.
The art, dialogue and Wolverine’s internal monologue in Wastelanders: Wolverine #1 all work. That’s not at all part of the issue. This chapter in Old Man Logan’s life just doesn’t feel necessary. The major parts of Wastelanders: Wolverine #1 would’ve been better served as part of the final pages of the original Old Man Logan story. Or, if Marvel was looking to do more with Old Man Logan again, this could work as the series opener — as much as Wastelanders: Wolverine #1 is written as an ending.
