With Kahndaq amid unrest, Black Adam is forced to balance his issue and maintain peace. Is there any hope left for our anti-hero with enemies all around and taking advantage?

As the issue starts off a 12-part maxi-series, we get events that happened before the Death of the Justice League. As the issue begins, we see the turmoil Lord Adam is dealing with on a political level with Shakur Nassar and the super-villain level with Desaad. A different side of Black Adam emerges after dealing with those and other problems.

The story is balanced yet confusing. With Kahndaq always known as a sanctuary for Black Adam, seeing him navigate the politics deftly with words instead of intimidating power is a change of pace. Priest giving readers a different outlook is different from what we are used to. The pacing is the biggest flaw in the story as it tries to include as much as possible.

Like the story, the art is balanced and confusing with all the different locations and characters. It is hard to keep up with it all. From fighting Darkseid to a courtroom, some of the perspectives are going to be blurred. Sandoval gives us some fantastic visuals but cannot make it coherent due to the frantic pace of the story.

Final Thoughts

Black Adam overall is a solid entry with a lot of potential but needs not to rush the story. With everything in this issue, you would think it was a 6-part mini-series, not 12 parts. If they can slow it down and flush out the story, there is a fantastic story. Priest and Sandoval are building something new and unique for Kahndaq and Black Adam, but there is no need to rush and create unneeded confusion.
