A Tips and Tricks Guide in Climbing the VALORANT Ranks

Jun 26, 2023

Valorant’s competitive game mode is not for the faint of heart, as many people who play in that mode want to climb the rank ladder. They cannot do it if they are on a losing streak because the game’s ranking system only allows you to rank up if you win consecutive games.

Are you having difficulty climbing the Valorant ranks, or have you been stuck in your rank for several Acts now? Do not worry; we have some useful tips and tricks to help you climb the ranks. Additionally, some Valorant Gift Cards from OffGamers here may help you tide over, so check those out!

Master the Maps Layout

Valorant has a plethora of maps in various layouts. As of this writing, nine maps have been created for Valorant, and these are:

  • Bind
  • Haven
  • Split
  • Ascent
  • Icebox
  • Breeze
  • Fracture
  • Pearl
  • Lotus

Breeze, for example, has so much open space that players must employ a different playstyle in order to win. This is also true for Haven, as there are three places where attackers can push, which thins out the defender’s side.

However, Valorant has a map pool from which they rotate which maps are pulled out for rework and which are not. In this case, you will not see these maps while playing the game, but they will reappear an Act or two later, and the cycle will begin again. Riot Games is attempting to balance the map and introduce a new strategy for longtime players.

There are currently seven maps in the pool, which means that if you want to improve in the game, you must either play unrated or continue playing competitively to master these maps. If you have friends to play with, start with Custom to get a feel for the map layout, then move on to Unrated, and finally Competitive.

On the other hand, there are numerous YouTube or Tiktok videos that can assist you in learning about the map, specifically for your main agent.

Be Knowledgeable on at least Three Agents

Valorant, like the maps, has a plethora of agents to choose from, each with their own set of roles and skill sets. Of course, as you progress through the game, you will want to try out all of the agents in each match. However, it is recommended that you practice and master three agents.

It could be three agents with vastly different roles, such as one controller, one duelist, and one sentinel. On the other hand, if you want to be a duelist main, try mastering three duelists, which is actually easier than the former because, while each agent has different skills, their roles are mostly tied to a specific playstyle.

Of course, the only disadvantage of learning one role is that if two of your teammates have already auto-locked two duelists, you will be forced to adjust to a different role.

Adapt and Communicate with your Teammates

Combining map knowledge with the ability to play multiple agents will make you adaptable and flexible for each competitive match. This gives you a significant advantage over enemies in lower ranks who only use one agent.

Furthermore, it is preferable to communicate with your teammates via chat or voice chat in order to create better synergy with your agents. Do not auto-lock agents because, as previously stated, some players only pick one agent every time.

During the game, always ping if you see enemies so your teammates are aware, and always keep an eye on the mini-map in case your team pings as well. However, if all of your teammates communicate via voice chat, you will have a much better chance of winning.

Practice your callouts as well, which should be simple if you have already mastered the maps. This can be a huge help to your team because you will know which corners or locations need to be covered to avoid flanking or pushing enemies.

Find a Duo or Party that is within your Rank

If you want to advance up the competitive rank ladder in Valorant, you should find a partner, a 3-man squad, or a full 5-man lineup (you will most likely face full-party enemies as well). Playing solo in any competitive game will almost certainly result in more losses due to less coordination with your team. Furthermore, it is less toxic than playing with strangers who may or may not be tilted.

Of course, you can always practice on unrated before going competitive to see how well your party plays, and as you become more comfortable as a team, you can finally try competitive. Another advantage is knowing your roles; if you play in a duo or three-man team, you can cover each other’s weaknesses, increasing your chances of winning.

Practice your Aim, Movement, and Learn Strategy

Aiming is as important in Valorant as lineups and strategy. You can practice your aim by playing unrated before doing competitive so you can warm up, or you can do a deathmatch because it is much faster. You can also practice with aim trainers like Aim Lab, which will greatly improve your aim. Adjusting sensitivity also takes time and more practice, but once you find your ideal setup, you will be much better.

Practice peeking at enemies, strafing, and hopping because these actions can help you lure enemies or learn where they are without coming under fire.

Each agent has abilities, and if correctly set up, they can assist in controlling a site so that their team can plant or defuse the spike. Many players have spent time perfecting their lineups, particularly with agents like Sova, Viper, and Brim, who can actually snipe you with their skills to prevent you from defusing a spike. This also prevents them from engaging in a disadvantageous 3v1 battle and instead allows them to win with a good strategy and lineup.

You will learn these setups as you play the game or watch guides, but mastering them will take a lot of practice.

Keep your Calm, and Quit if Tilted

Finally, when it comes to competitive video games, ego is your worst enemy. The same is true for playing Valorant, and it is exacerbated if you have toxic teammates, which is common in this game. I recommend disabling enemy team chat because it is a major distraction.

Knowing your limits allows you to stop competing while on a losing streak or even a winning streak. Take breaks to relax, particularly if you are tilted. Take a day or two off to recharge yourself, but never stop working to improve your ranking.

Conclusion

We hope this guide has assisted you in becoming a better Valorant player. It takes time to move up the competitive rank ladder, but the satisfaction of doing so will last forever. Improve your aim, master the maps and main agents, find your duo or party, and keep cool.
