What was your first Cosplay experience?
My first convention was the AniNite 2010 in Vienna – I cosplayed Rikku from Final Fantasy X-2 together with a good friend of mine as Yuna. Back then I didn’t have a wig or proper makeup, I just bought some clothes which looked similar to Rikkus. However it was really much fun and we met so many nice people there!
How long have you been Cosplaying?
I’ve been cosplaying for almost 5 years now, but at first I didn’t do it regularly. Since 2013, I make all my cosplays by myself and attend many conventions in Austria and Germany.
Who or what inspired you to take up Cosplaying?
I always loved watching Animes and playing video games and ever since my first convention, I admired all the cosplayers I’ve seen there! At first I always had help from my grandma or a tailor but someday I wanted to make a cosplay completely by myself. My first self-sewed cosplay was Mami Tomoe from Puella Magi Madoka Magica.
If you had to pick a favorite Cosplay you have worn, or have seen someone else wear, what would it be?
I definitely couldn’t pick just one – there are way too many great cosplayers all over the world!
My favorite cosplays of mine are the Diablo 3 Barbarian and the OC Fire Dragon armor.
If you had unlimited funds and resources, what Cosplay would you create?
I would probably make every single Monster Hunter armor since I totally love all those awesome designs and I really can’t decide which one I’m gonna make for our cosplay group this summer (it’ll probably be the Gore-Magala gunner armor)! And after that I would make various cosplays of Link, since he’s just my all-time favorite character!
What advice would you offer to those who are aspiring Cosplayers?
For your first project you should choose something not too difficult, everyone starts small! Look for reference pictures or other cosplays in the internet – most cosplayers are willing to help you if you’ve got any specific questions! There are also many tutorials and videos – you just have to search a little bit! And don’t give up if not everything is going according to plan the first time – sewing and crafting need a lot of practice, but all your efforts are definitely worth it once you see your own progress over the years!
