What was your first Cosplay experience?
The first costume I made was bounty hunter Boba Fett from the Star Wars franchise. I was a major Star Wars fan as a kid, and I just had to make my favourite character in real life.
How long have you been Cosplaying?
This year I must be at it for about 10 years now. ☺
Who or what inspired you to take up Cosplaying?
I have always been creative. Drawing and painting was what I used to do a lot during my childhood and puberty. The cosplay crafting is just a combination and expansion of what I used to like and learned in drawing and painting. With a painting you try to create a cool image. I usually drew dinosaurs or characters from movies and/or franchises that I liked.
I still do that now, except I try to create a cool image via a photograph of the character that was recreated by me in real life. For me it just feels like the next level.
If you had to pick a favorite Cosplay you have worn, or have seen someone else wear, what would it be?
I always liked to wear Snake. He’s popular, but not very mainstream at events. This allows for you to also look around and see the convention. Yet when people do know the franchise and love it the reactions are intense. ☺ He also allows for nice “acting” and fooling around when taking pictures with people. The cigarettes… choke holds… Grumpy looks… People like that next to the cool poses with guns and everything. Well… that… and you don’t die from dehydration or heat exhaustion since it’s just a millitairy get-up…. Ha ha ha!
If you had unlimited funds and resources, what Cosplay would you create?
Well, I’d start with a fully flexible but armoured and light working version of Gray Fox (the Ninja from Metal Gear Solid). I would then continue on to FulGore from Killer Instinct and probably and awe inspiring Buzz Lightyear!!! I have also been looking at the dinosaurs from the Walking with Dinosaurs live experience… Now that would be killer!!
What advice would you offer to those who are aspiring Cosplayers?
Well… enjoy the process, do not haste (that comes later on…) and choose something you really, really like. It must be fun to create something. ☺ Having fun gets you half way through the process already!!
All the best and thank you for featuring me here. ☺
