Its October and that means Halloween is almost here. In honor of my favorite holiday of the year I give to you my top thirty horror movies. Now some of these films might be on every list, but some might not. I might even have a film or two that you have never heard of. Just remember this is my top thirty. In other words these films made me cringe or just sent chills up my spine. So with no further ado here is my list.
# 27
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956)
Directed by: Don Siegel
This is a classic movie that I believe everyone needs to seen. Probably just reading the title and seeing the year it came out might turn you off to seeing it but really hope not. I saw this movie for the first time in my pre-teens on the television at mom’s house. I don’t really think I understood the movie upon my first viewing. Later on in life I came across in again and love it. Being a movie from the mid-fifties there is no gore. Just a great script that will make you use your brain. I love movies that are more thought provoking and make you look at the world a little different.
The story starts off strong with a doctor being held in custody in the emergency room at a hospital. We get to hear his horrifying story through flashbacks. It seems that people are not really themselves. I mean that literally. When they go to sleep they are replaced with an exact duplicate. That exact duplicate is being hatched in an alien like pod.
From that description and the pictures above you are probably thinking this movie is boring and just flat out bad. To help you get in the mood try to put your mind in 1950’s America. That is when the world was obsessed with UFO’S and the thought of aliens. Due to some great acting and a tremendous ending this movie will become one of your favorites. So next time your loved ones or a close friend is not quite acting themselves remember to check their basement, you maybe in the presence of the pod people.
