The opening sequence introduces us to Kristen Balko (Anna Wood), as she undergoes a polygraph test. This scene cuts to present day, at Alicia’s (Julianna Margulies) office, as Kristen explains her case. “They fired you, because you lied on your resume?” asks Alicia, “No, they fired me, because I lied on my lie detector test.”, Say that sentence ten times fast. While, Alicia and Lucca quickly untangle the case, Jason Crouse (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) enters and the tension goes up about ten notches. They verbally volley their argument back and forth; all the while undressing one another with their eyes. Fast forward, to Alicia looking into the reasons behind Jason being disbarred. “Sociopath…they will eat away your life from the inside out. That is Jason Crouse and my advice to you mam is…run,” explains Clinton Foyle to Alicia. He’s the judge, whom Jason punched after losing a case in trial. Foyle’s statement is expounded upon as Alicia carefully watches Jason through her glass office doors. He appears friendly, then gives her a pointed look, as if questioning her stare. Can Alicia trust Jason? Will repercussions from their professional and eventually personal relationship surface…yes, the sooner, the better!
In true Good Wife fashion this case plays out like a comedy of errors; as every untruth leads to bigger fibs. Christine Lahti makes a great guest appearance, as Andrea Stevens, the Silicon Valley tech company’s lawyer, “Are we really wondering why the national security agency might have a need for secrecy?”, Wait, this case is related to the NSA…may we see the return of our favorite NSA workers-Yes! “They want to hear testimony from a disgraced poor man’s Snowden?”, asks Andrea Stevens. I forgot how much I missed Jeff Dellinger (Zach Woods) and his eavesdropping NSA co-workers; who provide delightful commentary while listening to Alicia’s various phone calls. Back in the season five episode, All Tapped Out, Jeff Dellinger fled the country after accidentally releasing NSA secrets. However, he still owes Alicia a favor, so it’s time to pay up. But remember Alicia, the NSA is always listening; cut to the NSA office where Michael Urie (Stephen Dinovera) and Tobias Segal (Tyler Hopkins) are excited by the return of their favorite program: The Alicia Florrick melodrama hour. During the closing scene Alicia seals the deal, as she mentions Snowden, while talking to Jeff about how her client can pass a computer simulated polygraph test. The NSA boys are back in Alicia’s life, perfect timing since Peter will be running to become President.

Season seven certainly is shaping up to be the season of Eli Gold (Alan Cumming) and episode six, Lies, certainly follows suit. Eli meets Ruth Eastman (Margo Martindale) for brunch, where the duo continues to engage in psychological warfare, “The most powerful men are the ones no one knows exist,” says Eli. There’s one problem about what he claims his father said to him, “You got the quote wrong, that’s a line from the Usual Suspects,” says Ruth. Enough with the lies, now back to business. Peter’s up in the polls to the point where they could potentially seize the Democratic ticket and run for Presidency. Eli’s getting everything he’s ever wanted, except Ruth’s still managing the campaign. Throughout the previous five episodes I have grown rather tired of Eli’s vendetta against Ruth and Peter. However in this installment there’s a nice balance between his child-like antics and the realization that Peter will always be a casualty in his war against Ruth. “Sometimes to stop the cancer, you have to endanger the patient,” explains Eli to Nora (Nicole 
Roderick). The scenes between Eli and Nora are nicely set, as she just appears in his office, after they cut to a wide shot. She questions Eli’s tactics, as if she’s the angel sitting on his shoulder, telling him not to continue this pursuit. Too late, Eli’s already set things in motion as he gets Frank Landau (Mike Pniewski) to endorse Peter’s campaign. Then Eli goes to Judge Schakowsky (Christopher McDonald) for some dirt on the Democratic Party leader, “Landau rigged the voting machines in the last election. He’ll have his arm around Peter at the biggest moment of his career…that’ll leave a mark,”, explains Eli. The best-laid plans of Eli Gold always go awry, especially when it’s a lie. Peter arranged for Frank to rig the election. Exposing the truth would not just leave a mark on Peter, but would be a knockout punch. Eli watches as Peter announces his campaign for Presidency, set as a poor re-enactment of President Obama’s announcement. The camera holds on Eli’s face, as he watches Alicia grace the stage. She’s always been loyal to him…so maybe he truly needs to re-strategize and align himself truthfully, with Mrs. Florrick.
