The-100-Season-3-ClarkeOn January 21st, 2016 we will meet again, as the CW begins the third chapter in their post-apocalyptic drama The 100. Since debuting in spring 2014 this show has received praise from critics for allowing moral ambiguity to flow throughout the story as choices are made and consequences seen. Earlier this week CW dropped the epic third season trailer, so it’s theory spiral time!

“I’m no one,” says Clarke Griffin (Eliza Taylor) well how very, “Rae” of you to claim you’re nobody, when you are indeed somebody. She’s someone to a lot of different people, who represent very different interests. A former ally and flame to the grounder commander, Lexa (Alycia Debnam-Carey), who appears to be picking things up right where she left off… with a blade and then a bed. Clarke is also the hundred’s princess leader and friend to Bellamy Blake (Bob Morley), “Please tell me that going to war is not what you want,” pleads Clarke. Amidst the fall of the mountain men, this season reignites the war between the grounders and the sky people. More importantly the trailer teases Bellamy and Clarke battling one another, as they’ve each taken up leadership positions with these opposing factions, “We’ve been at war since we landed,” explains Bellamy. I am so thrilled to see that this season will feature Bellamy, especially since his alignment with the sky people, will cause him to make some critical moral ambiguous choices that threaten his relationship not only with Clarke… but with his sister Octavia (Marie Avgeropoulous) too. “You’re dead to me,” cries Octavia after beating her brother to a bloody pulp; very believable considering she’s Indra’s (Adina Porter) second. Anyone else notice that very gladiator-esque grounder fight that Octivia will be participating in? Okay back to the Blake siblings fall out. So I predict that Lincoln (Ricky Whittle) is going to die in a grounder massacre that’s a result of Bellamy’s decision. Mystery solved, so let the family war ensue. Yes, viewers have already seen the sky people versus the grounders however season three looks to redefine both this fight and these characters as our original rogue leaders embrace these opposing forces, for better or worse.

The-100-Season-3-Trailer-Clarke-Eliza-Taylor“I was going to save everyone,” says Jasper (Devon Bostick), after we witness him take a very Fury Road inspired joy ride through the camp’s gates. Poor guy almost dies during the first season, then falls in love, and watches her burn to ash in his very arms during the second season. I really can’t wait to see his confrontation with Clarke happen, because there’s so much underlying tension. Clarke and Bellamy made a tough call last year, but it’s interesting to see the consequences of their decision plague those they agreed to protect back in season one. “I’m not fine,” don’t forget Monty (Christopher Larkin) played a part in the mountain men genocide too. Now what the heck is going on with Raven (Lindsey Morgan)? Our fearless astronaut turned cripple asks, “What if I’m just broken”, as tears stream down her face. Nobody bares more physical scars from this ongoing war than her. I mean the mountain men even began taking her bone marrow last season. Abby (Paige Turco) says a critical line in the trailer that I believe will relate to Raven’s arc this season, “Whatever it is, it’s eliminating more than just pain.” Is Raven going to become addicted to morphine? Well maybe all our remaining hundred survivors are “just broken.”

After watching the trailer I am more excited about Jaha’s (Isaiah Washington) misguided salvation found in the City of Light.  “I’ll do anything humanly possible to ride out the nightmare that you created,” such a dynamic line to include in this trailer.  The artificial intelligence being Jaha meets during the season two finale is responsible for triggering the nuclear war that all, but killed our planthe-100-saison-3-alie-allie-intelligenceet.  This line teases the writers’ further exploring and developing of this fascinating history; an action that mirrors to an extent Clarke’s own moral ambiguous arc as a war criminal. Season three promises to be another well-paced chapter that builds off the mythos from before, as well as gaining momentum towards unexplored territories.  Let the wars begin, because after all “Blood must have blood.”
